I didn't wait at all... and apart from that I think it's such a beautiful place! And I loved the permanent collections ... and didn't have the energy to enjoy the 2 temporary exhibitions. Too bad... I'll be back!

The exhibits, the curation, the architecture ... everything was just "wow"! - I particularly liked the modern sculptures and living artists that were shown alongside the classics from the turn of the century. The only annoying thing was the many people who misuse such an impressive museum as a selfie hotspot without looking at the art on display with the appropriate appreciation. What a pity.

Established in 1986, the Orsay Museum is one of the newest museums in Paris but also one of the most important. It is an institution that houses paintings from one of the most influential periods of French Art — the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist eras of the late 19th Century.

Explore the artworks at your own pace

Once inside, you are free to explore the museum as you like. The exhibitions are arranged chronologically, with early 19th-century sculptures and classical paintings on the ground floor, leading up to the Impressionist paintings on the second and top floors. Most of the highlights of the Orsay Museum are on the top floor.

Explore an extensive collection of French Realist and Symbolist art and gain insights into the cultural and artistic developments of the late 19th century. Stroll throll exhibits with displays of sculptures and decorative arts, including furniture, and other artifacts from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.

Magnificent inside and out!

At the Orsay Museum, you will not only see famous paintings but also have the chance to catch sweeping views of Paris from its top floor. One of the Orsay Museum’s best-kept secrets is its Terrasse d’Été, Summer Terrace — perched high above the city with lovely views of the Seine River, the Louvre, and in the distance, even Sacre Coeur perched high on its hill in Montmartre.

Temporary exhibitions

Gustave Caillebotte (1848–1894) and his preference for masculine forms and male portraits are the subject of an exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay that opens in the fall of 2024 (October 10th). The exhibition aims to explore this artist's profoundly radical modernity through the lens of art history's shifting perspective on 19th-century forms of masculinity.
