This guided tour through Seville’s iconic monuments will give you a chance to experience living history like never before. The Alcázar and the Cathedral together represent some of the grandest aspects of the Spanish Golden Age, with art and architecture that incorporate Islamic culture, ecclesiastical power, royal influence, and the mercantile clout that Spain wielded through its colonies in the New World.

After you meet your guide, you will be escorted through the Alcázar, the royal palace in Seville. Originally constructed in the 10th century as the palace of the Moslem governor, it has been built and rebuilt from the Middle Ages right up to recent history. Here you can admire the palatial galleries and extensive gardens, and learn about the rare potpourri of cultures that coexist within the palace, together with other architecture representing every style from the Renaissance to the Neoclassical. For a more recent connection, the TV show “Game of Thrones” has shot many scenes in this castle and its surrounding gardens.

Next, you will be guided to the Cathedral of Seville, a Gothic and Renaissance-style building that was founded on the site of a former mosque. Here you can see another prime example of the cultural fusion of Seville’s roots coming into play, as your guide will show you the Giralda Tower whose lower sections were built by the Islamic rulers, while the top sections were designed in the Renaissance period by Hernán Ruiz. You can also view the tomb of Christopher Columbus, who is ensconced within the Cathedral. As a final treat, you can climb the Giralda Tower and take in the amazing views from the top.

Take in the rich and diverse history of Seville, the hub of Spanish royalty and the trading capital with Latin America, with this stroll through the streets of time.
