One of the most important ports of Europe and a popular tourist destination in Italy is the historic port city of Genoa where the old harbor of Genoa was redesigned in 1992. Delve into medieval times from the historic city center. From the Santa Maria di Castello church built in Romanesque style to the La Casa di Colombo, home of the young Christopher Columbus, explore the architecture of the medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, and Gothic styles.

Walk through the explorer’s house museum, an 18th Century reconstruction of his original home, which was most likely destroyed in the French Bombardment of Genoa in 1684. Behind La Casa di Colombo are the ruins of the 12th Century Cloister of Sant’Andrea surrounded by carved columns and arches that have been preserved and restored after they were demolished in 1904.
