Escape to the magnificent Catalonian mountains and soak in the landscape as you visit one of the most fascinating monasteries in the world – the Montserrat Monastery.
With an audio guide available in 8 languages, a map, and an informative booklet, explore the complex at your own flexible pace. An abbey of the Order of Saint Benedict, learn about the tumultuous history of the monastery with it being burned down twice, its treasures being looted, and its ultimate closure in 1885. It reopened after restoration in 1844 and currently has 70 monks in residence. The Museum and newly-renovated audio-visual room will enhance your experience as you get access to archaeological collections and works by important artists such as Dalí, El Greco, Monet, and Giordano.
This monastery is mostly famous for being the home of La Moreneta or Black Madonna – the patron saint of Catalonia. The 12th-century figure can be found above the high altar in the monastery's basilica. The Basilica itself is a huge section to discover with its rich mosaics and cloister, designed by architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. With this ticket, beat the lines and get a timed entry to view this highly religious figure integral to the Catalan region.
