Your Experience
The Museum of Modern Art in Paris is all geared to celebrate Hubert Duprat’s seminal works. Gain access to a retrospective that focuses on the artist’s career, while attempting to shine new light on his scientific and methodical approach to art. Showcasing a creative quest that spans out over a period of 30 long years, the body of work that is presented amounts to a corpus in which the monumental and the miniature, minimal shapes and mannerist virtuosity coexist. The exhibition, moreover, makes one question the reality of objects surrounding us. Duprat’s art is more so an exploration of technique – his repurposed processes coming largely from the crafts of marquetry, goldsmithing, upholstery, and string art.
At the beginning of his career, Duprat was hugely influenced by the functioning of Caddisfly larvae. Observing how this insect built a cocoon out of materials gathered from its watery surroundings, the artist, in a controlled environment, provided it with gold wire and pearls, allowing the creature to create a delicate case of its own making. “Le Miroir du Trichoptère” [The Mirror of the Caddisfly] comprising of the artist’s personal collection, contains more than two thousand works, engravings, objects, photographs, and films, which will be displayed in all its splendor in the midst of the permanent collection.
