Discover Hungary through its art and culture
The Hungarian National Gallery is a cluster of imposing Neoclassical staterooms crowned by a regal verdigris dome located within the grand Baroque complex of Buda Castle. Featuring over 10,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints, the four floors and four wings in the museum bring together everything from French impressionist masters to contemporary Hungarian sculptors. Its collections include a wide range of Hungarian art in all genres, including works by Hungarian artists living in Paris and elsewhere.
Art collection
The permanent exhibits provide visitors with a complex and thorough overview of the European art of the time. They include works of Austrian, German, Belgian, and Scandinavian artists displayed alongside those by Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, and Claude Monet.
Explore the works of Symbolist artists and admire the Impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces of Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, and others. Feast your eyes on Orientalist and Italian works. There are separate sections for conceptual and post-conceptual artistic positions. The gallery frequently hosts temporary exhibitions in addition to its permanent collections (chargeable extra).

The museum houses a significant collection of 19ths- and 20th-century Hungarian paintings and sculptures. See the extensive collections of medieval and Renaissance stonework, Gothic wooden sculptures and panel paintings, and late-Gothic winged altars.
