A romantic comedy film created by renowned writer and director Baz Luhrmann, Moulin Rouge! has been adapted to the stage with all the extravaganza and melodrama as the film. The Moulin Rouge is the most famous cabaret in Paris. It is renowned for being the birthplace of the can-can dance and soon evolved into a form of entertainment of its own. Presently, the Moulin Rouge is one of the top tourist attractions of Paris and continues to offer entertainment to visitors from across the world.
Alex Timbers, a multiple award-winning writer, and director has been given the reigns to the stage adaptation. Catherine Zuber often referred to as one of the most sought-after costume designers in the United States, is in charge of the costume design. There is no doubt the early 20th-century atmosphere and setting will be aptly portrayed on stage. Sonya Tayeh, a two-time Emmy nominee is in charge of the choreography. Additionally, a star-studded cast with Aaron Tveit and Tony Award winner Karen Olivo at its helm guarantees that the audience is in for the time of their lives! Watch the heart-touching film come to life in an all-new musical mash-up that promises to rival the original film!
The Story
The story is set in the romantic Montmartre Quarter of Paris, in the late 1890s. Christian, a struggling composer, moves to Paris’ famous Montmartre district with the hope of becoming a part of the Bohemian movement. One day, he discovers his neighbors are a troupe of performers led by Toulouse-Lautrec. On finding out that Christian is a writer, the troupe goes to him for help for their proposed show. Christian helps them finish the show, which the troupe hopes to sell to the owner of the Moulin Rouge, the most famous cabaret in France. At the Moulin Rouge, Christian meets Satine, the star courtesan who has been promised to the wealthy Duke of Monroth. Christian and Satine fall in love, but must hide it from the psychopathic Duke. Can this unlikely couple escape from the clutches of the powerful Duke and live happily ever after? Or will fate have a role to play in this dramatic story?
