Matthew Bourne returns to The Lowry for two weeks worth of family-sized helpings of his trademark wit and magical fantasy. Nutcracker! is a hit with critics and audiences alike. The story follows Clara's journey from Chritsmas Eve at Dr. Dross' Orphanage to an ice-skating winter wonderland, followed by a candy kingdom called Sweetieland, inspired by the musicals of the '30s. Set against Tchaikovsky's fantastic score and paired with Anthony Ward's delightful costumes and sets, this show is simply out of the world. When you add Bourne's beautiful choreography into the mix, the result is a fresh and charming interpretation of the classic.

Matthew Bourne and his New Adventures company have had enormously successful dance productions in the last two decades. These include The Red Shoes, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Edward Scissorhands and the reimagining of Romeo and Juliet.
