why watch girl from the north country

Love and family are two things that everyone can relate to. Each person, rich or poor has at least one person that they love and can count on when they need family. In this musical, Conor McPherson reimages 20 of Bob Dylan’s most popular songs to tell the story of residents of a guesthouse who are all faced with harsh challenges, especially since it is set during the Great Depression. However, two new additions to the guesthouse may prove to be a catalyst in driving change in these people’s lives.

Nick is down on his luck and is worried that the bank will foreclose on the guesthouse. Although he lives with his family, a wife, and two children, he finds himself facing this challenge alone since his wife has dementia, his daughter is having a child out of wedlock and his son only seems to care about drowning his sorrows in alcohol. In a situation like this, Nick is also in a relationship with one of the tenants who is a widow. The other family that lives in the guesthouse is the Burke family who has their fair share of problems. Mr. Burke has lost his business and he and his wife are having trouble accepting the fate of their only child, a boy, who suffers from a learning disability. However, on one rainy night, two people, a bible salesman and a hapless boxer arrive at the guesthouse, looking for a place to say. The arrival of these gentlemen changes the entire course of the story but you will have to book your tickets to find out if the residents of the guesthouse have brighter days in store for them or if the new guests only come with more trouble.
