The Ferryman Tickets

The winner of the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Director, Sam Mendes, has taken Jez Butterworth’s famous play, ‘The Ferryman,’ to incredible heights. With its blend of conventional drama elements and unique humour, the play has never failed to captivate the crowd. At first glance, The Ferryman seems to be a simple family drama, but this masterpiece goes on to explore some of the most complicated aspects of human nature.

    Why Watch The Ferryman

The Ferryman manages to create intriguing thematic conflicts that theatre-lovers will thoroughly enjoy. On the one hand, the play draws the audience in with sombre undertones, painting a dark picture of the nasty hatred that was rampant in the first half of the 1980’s in Ireland. On the other, it is sprinkled with a dreamy pastoral romantic flavour brought out by the fine performances of Catherine Mccormack and Rosalie Craig. This medley of bittersweet family drama makes for an incredible experience that you simply cannot miss.
Unsurprisingly, the play went on to become one of the fastest-selling shows in the history of Royal Court Theatre. It was moved to West End’s Gielgud Theatre in April, 2017. The Ferryman continues to attract a massive audience to this day.

    The Story

The Ferryman is set in Northern Ireland in the year 1981. This was the time when hunger strikes across the nation were garnering support for the IRA. The play follows the everyday conversations and conflicts of the Carney family. It is time for the harvest, and the bustling household’s routine is interrupted by an unexpected visitor. Quinn Carney is a doting father who is forced to take in his missing brother’s obnoxious wife, Caitlin, who strongly believes that her husband, Seamus, will return. Her hopes are thrown into disarray when a corpse is found preserved in the bog. The family soon descends into various ideological differences that mirror the political situation of that era.
