why watch the moderate soprano

The Moderate Soprano tells the story of how two people in love, who chase a common goal - one that etches their names in history. The play follows John Christie and Audrey Milady, who come together to create Glyndebourne, an English opera house, which is a revered British institution today. Helmed by Olivier Award nominee Jeremy Herrin, and supported by a talented cast, The Moderate Soprano is a beautiful story about love and passion that just cannot be missed!

The Story

The Moderate Soprano tells the true story of John Christie, the founder of the Glyndebourne Opera house. The play follows John, a confirmed bachelor, who at the age of 48 falls in love with singer Audrey Mildmay. The two of them go on to build the Glyndebourne Opera, which many consider a huge mistake, given the impending threat of a second World War. Despite its opening during times of uncertainty, the Glyndebourne would soon become famous throughout the world.
