why watch girl on an altar
When Clytemnestra's husband lies to her and sacrifices their 10-year-old daughter for the advancement of the war against Troy, enraged, she dances on her altar plotting revenge against her husband. Marina Carr's Girl On An Altar is a modern take on this Greek mythology written in blood yet discomfortingly just. A story that sheds light on toxic masculinity and how it affects many lives, this play makes one introspect how history repeats itself in different ages. Women, much like long ago still do not have the right to make decisions for themselves, their bodies. This play, directed by Annabelle Comyn, will leave you gasping in awe with the commendable acting by the cast, the exceptional sound design and the way the entirety is set to motion.
