Balanchine + Peck Tickets

Showcasing both old and new talents, Balanchine + Peck combines the very best of the legendary George Balanchine, and one of the modern greats of choreography, Justin Peck. Incorporating several indie-pop and modern elements, Peck’s ballets have been critically acclaimed for his structure, which brings out the spirit of his ballets. His ability to transition this formation from one dancer to the other is what sets him apart from his contemporaries. The influence of legends such as Jerome Robbins and Goerge Balanchine can be seen throughout, but he adds his unique touch that makes it feel less like a copy than a homage to his idols. As the youngest Resident Choreographer of the NYC Ballet, Justin Peck has been making waves through the ballet community for years, and is all set to take American ballet to new heights!

George Balanchine, often stylised the Father of American Ballet, was an influential choreographer of ballet in the 20th century and also the founder of the NYC Ballet. Known for his speed, style and energetic movements, he ushered in an all-new neoclassical style into American ballet, inspired by his Russian roots. His ballets continue to be performed across the world, and his influence continues to be seen in modern choreography. Known for his musicality, he worked with several prominent composers of his time, creating timeless works that continue to be fan-favourites!

The Show

The first performance, titled Belles-Lettres, is one of Justin Peck’s most loved ballets. With a score by eminent composer Cesar Franck, the ballet wonderfully complements the lyrical harmonies wonderfully. The dancers are decked in lace-lettered garments, and watching them go through the moves in seamless fluidity is hair-raising. By the end of the performance, there is no doubt that you will have just witnessed a work of art!

The second ballet, called In Creases, is a series of shifting shapes and metamorphic formations. As the first ballet for the NYCB, the ballet showcases Peck’s ability to manipulate bodies to create eye-catching patterns and unique geometric structures. Set to Philip Glass’s Four Movements for Two Pianos, the ballet builds up momentum just like the music, as the 8 dancers dressed in two-tone leotards put up a show to remember!

The final ballet is Balanchine’s Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet, with an astonishing 55 dancers in the performance. With a score by renowned composer Johannes Brahms and costumes by the eminent Barbara Karinska, the entire performance is a work of art. The finale is intoxicating to see, and there is no doubt that you will be riveted to your seat throughout the performance.
