The day tour to Pompeii & Mt Vesuvius was fantastic! Maria (guide) & Bruno (driver) were organised, efficient & detailed information. The archeological tour in Pompeii was excellent! Headabout was easy to buy tickets online however the advertised time on the website was wrong so a little bit of confusion at the start of the day.

Everything and when we could not do one part of the tour due to a landslide on Mt Vesuvius and wonderful alternative was offered.

To begin with, I can say that we had an absolutely wonderful guide, Connie. We started by going by bus to Pompeii where we spent about 2.5-3 hours together with another guide who showed us around some of the most important sites. Here I would have liked the guide to have used some sort of sound system, which I saw many other groups use, as it was sometimes difficult to hear what was being said unless you were right in front of her. Apart from this, I have to say that it was a very special feeling to walk around this ruined city which, after all, is so incredibly well preserved. After the walking tour in Pompeii, our bus journey was to continue towards Mount Vesuvius, but to begin with we ran into some problems as it turned out that our bus had broken down. Connie, along with her colleagues worked feverishly to resolve this, which of course they did, and we got a new bus, albeit slightly smaller than the one we originally had. Halfway up Mount Vesuvius we stopped at a restaurant where we had a simple lunch (included in the price), in my case consisting of pizza. After lunch, the bus took us up to about 1000 m altitude to a place where we had to continue the journey towards the top on foot. The last part, the one you hike, can be very tough for many people as you hike just over a kilometer with a constant, relatively steep, uphill. Unfortunately, some rain clouds came towards the mountain just as we were on our way up and it rained for a little while, so we got a little wet, but it also took away some of the opportunities to see the incredible view you get from the top, but as it was, the clouds cleared for a short while so I got to look down into the crater anyway. After spending a while on top of Mount Vesuvius, it was time to hike back to the bus, and that hike is certainly faster, but I think it was harder on the legs because you have to hold on all the time to avoid falling. Once back on the bus, I could finally exhale and look back on the day as an absolutely wonderful day and a well-executed day trip.

My family and I really enjoyed the tour, however, we were scheduled for a 4hour tour in which our actual tour was only 2.5 hours including driving time to destination. We were disappointed that we didn't get the extra time we paid for.

Our tour archeologists Diego made the tour. His knowledge of areas we toured made trip more enjoyable. This tour is not for those that have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces.

The walking tour of Pompeii is a fascinating journey back in time to the prosperous days of the Roman civilization. The once energetic city was lost to history due to the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Now a UNESCO-listed site, it offers an excellent window into the living conditions in the Roman era through its excavated finds. The guide will first lead you to the Civil Forum, also called the main square and its most imposing building known as the Basilica. The impressive ruins of the Basilica are spread over 1500 sq. meters and were the site of court hearings, and public functions, among other things. On the northern side of the Civil Forum, you will find remains of the Temple of Jupiter. Next, pay a visit to the famous Forum Baths and get a sense of what communal baths looked like in Roman times. Additionally, Pompeii also boasts a luxurious villa called House of the Menander, which was home to the Roman elites.

With all the information from your tour guide, piece together the picture of a thriving city with cobbled streets, crowded marketplaces, remarkable frescoes, street fountains, and magnificent statues. All of which were shrouded under 4 to 6 meters of volcanic ash for thousands of years. Only to emerge from the ashes in the 18th century and reveal how the city of Pompeii came to a screeching halt on that fateful day in 79 AD.

Only small dogs on a leash can be brought inside the park. Guide dogs are permitted (with a certificate).
