Our guide "Ali" was informative and considerate of older guests. The cave was magnificent - not our first cave experience either but head and shoulders the best.

It helped me realise that the earth is older than I had appreciated. Also, the guide showed skill in handling the big group. She maintained very good management of some of the situations.

We took our 3 teenage girls to Jewel cave. They had not seen any caves before. I loved the first view coming down the stairs and seeing the whole area lit up with twinkling lights. It was amazing. Our girls loved it!

What a fabulous experience at Jewel Cave! Such an amazing place! Digby was our tour guide and he was fabulous! Very informative and very funny. You could tell how passionate he was about the cave. Our two girls absolutely loved it as did we!

Your Experience

Jewel Cave is one of the most naturally decorated caves in Australia and contains numerous examples of helictites, cave corals, stalagmites, and pendulites. The highlights of the cave’s natural formations include the enormous stalagmite, known as ‘The Karri Forest’, and flowstones such as the Organ Pipes and The Frozen Waterfall.

The cave is home to three chambers, with the Lake Chamber offering some of the most diverse cave formations. You can see several crystal formations, cave corals, helictites, and some incredibly rare pendulites, which are pendulum-like structures formed from stalagmites. With an expert guide by your side, you can learn a great deal about the cave and its hidden gems.

The cave is also home to the fossilized remains of numerous Tasmanian Tigers, also known as Thylacines. Preserved for over 3000 years, guests can get a chance to see the skeleton on display at the cave center.

Important Information

It is recommended to wear full coverage shoes (trainers, shoes, or sneakers) that are non-slippery as there is an ample amount of slippery places along with wooden steps and floorboard with tunnels, thong sandals/ flipflops are not recommended.
Children under 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting There

By car: Jewel Cave is a 10-minute drive north of Augusta, along Caves Road.
It is recommended to drive or take a taxi to get to the cave as there is limited public transport.
