Highlights

  • Discover the essence of Tokyo as you stroll through the streets of Yurakucho, Ginza, and Shinbashi. Taste an extensive array of Japanese delicacies on this 3-hr guided culinary tour.

  • Transcend back into the 70s as you walk through the lantern–lit alleyways of Yurakucho. Make a stop at Gado Shita, a busy restaurant beneath the brick arches of the elevated train tracks.

  • Indulge in the succulent flavors of 'Yakitori', where char-grilled skewered chicken is paired perfectly with fresh vegetables and the drinks to complement the meat.

  • Head to Tokyo's upscale Ginza neighborhood and explore high-end specialty goods like a $400 melon, and a Sembei (rice cracker) shop dating back to 1800s.

  • Meander through the rustic maze towards izakayas (pubs) and immerse yourself in the exotic ambiance of the Showa period. Sip a drink before heading back to Shinbashi Station.

  • Fun Fact: Yakitori was born in the Edo period when meat was a rarity and a luxury in Japan. The dish was prepared by using the chicken innards and grilling it while basting it with a sauce.

What to Expect on Your Walking Tour

Begin your tour at Yurakucho as you walk through the lantern-lit alleyways (Yokocho). Photograph the rustic wooden Japanese restaurants and vintage movie posters plastered on the walls for the 'gram. Stop by Gado Shita, the dining hotspot where the aromas of Japanese cuisine beckon tourists. This area evokes the nostalgia of 1970s Japan as your English guide regales you with anecdotes about the rich culinary history. Dig into Japanese Yakitori skewers basted with flavourful sauce to satiate your hunger. The skewers are cooked with different parts of the chicken without wasting any of it.

Next, make your way to Ginza, Tokyo’s premier shopping district and a gourmet hot spot. Get a taste of seasonal food at an old gourmet shop as you drool over the delicious produce on display. Don't miss Japan's famously unblemished and super pricey fruits. Walk past posh boutiques and stores, such as the classic Mitsukoshi, Dover Street Market, and Ginza Six. Shopping options in this neighborhood reflect city’s consumer culture, which stretches from high-fashion glam to down-to-earth crafts.

Don't forget to save room for the decadent dessert after relishing some of the Japanese cuisine. You'll assuredly have many “love at first bite” moments!

Japan is known for its izakayas, just as the UK is known for its pubs. There are mazes of eateries and pubs, where sake (or beer, or whatever drink you prefer) is paired with raw seafood, simmered tofu, fried chicken, braised pork, etc. Complete your tour by savoring 2 complimentary drinks before heading back to the station.
