Cosi Fan Tutte Tickets

Witness a dark exploration of romance and sex as the Met opera brings the Mozart classic back to life. Featuring a star-studded cast, Phil McDermott’s production promises to enrapture audiences from across the world!

    Why Watch Cosi Fan Tutte

Although the opera was originally set in 18th century Italy, director Phil McDermott adapts the story for 1950s America. His production brilliantly captures the setting of 1950s America and the vibrant atmosphere of Coney Island. He also layers several small skits in the overtures and arias, making for a thoroughly enjoyable performance. Despite being classified as a comic opera, Mozart’s music has a much deeper meaning and is highlighted by the talented cast.

    The Story

Ferrano and Guglielmo are two officers, on holiday in the United States with their fiancees, sisters Dorabella and Fiordiligi. While at a nightclub, a mutual friend, Don Alfonso tells them that he does not believe that a woman can be loyal to just one man. When the boys disagree with Don Alfonso, he offers them a wager: their wives are no different from other women and that he will prove their unfaithfulness. The following day, Don Alfonso tells the sisters that their husbands have been called away to war, and the two officers bid goodbye to their heartbroken lovers. When the two girls return to their hotel, the maid, Despina encourages them to revel in their freedom and find new lovers. Soon, Don Alfonso introduces the young lovers to two of his friends, who are just Gugliemo and Ferrano in disguise. In fact, their call to war was just a ploy to test the loyalty of the two sisters.

Will Ferrano and Guglielmo’s trust in their fiancees prove unfounded? Is Don Alfonso accurate in his theory about human nature?
