The Snow Queen Tickets

First published in the mid-19th Century by celebrated Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, The Snow Queen has been adapted for various mediums of expression including theatre and film. This winter, Olivier Award-winning Julie Clare Productions is set to bring this legendary tale to life at London’s Park Theatre!

    Why Watch The Snow Queen

A classic tale with a plot that pivots around the clash of good and evil, The Snow Queen has been published time and time again as an illustrated children’s storybook. The epic tale is woven in seven separate ‘stories’ or ‘acts’. Andersen’s charming fairy tale moves from one story to the next in a seamless manner, each act accentuating the wisdom of Christ and the Bible. It is as much a tale of innocent love, faith, and integrity as it is a complex exploration of theological and existential ideas. The Snow Queen, therefore, has something unique and fascinating for viewers of all ages.

The upcoming Park Theatre performance boasts of a stellar creative team including writer Charles Way, director Abigail Anderson, and designer Gregor Donnelly. Charles Way is known for his contribution to plays such as In The Bleak Midwinter, The Dove Maiden, and On the Black Hills. He is an acclaimed children’s playwright whose works such as A Spell of Cold Weather and Playing from the Heart have been presented at some of England’s top theatres. Some of his pieces (Funny Boys and On the Black Hill) have aired on Radio Wales. Two-time Olivier Award-winning producers of last year’s West End hit Peter Pan will be bringing this exquisite classic to Park Theatre this winter!

    The Story

The devil assumes the form of an evil troll and creates a mirror that distorts the image of everything it reflects. Any human who gazes in the mirror will only see all their bad traits and evil tendencies. As the troll’s pupils take the mirror around the world, delighting in the chaos and havoc, they decide to take the mirror to heaven and mock the angels. The mirror, however, slips from their grasp and falls back to the Earth, causing it to shatter into an innumerable number of tiny fragments. Any fragment that is breathed in by human causes that person to view everyone and everything as ugly and undesirable.

Gerda and Cei are childhood friends who live in a peaceful neighbourhood. Gerda’s grandmother often tells them tales of love and faith in the Bible. Gerda’s world is suddenly turned upside down when a fragment from the cursed mirror lodges itself in Cei’s heart. She is forced to endure his callousness and disregard for their friendship. At the onset of winter, Cei is enslaved and abducted by the fearsome Snow Queen. It is up to Gerda to rescue her friend from the clutches of evil.
