Solaris Tickets

Enjoy one of the most intriguing science-fiction plays set in a space station. When a crew member is found dead, and the others are seemingly suffering from prolonged hallucinations, one can’t help but wonder if making contact with the strange planet will lead to their doom.

    Why You Should Watch Solaris

The play is David Greig’s adaptation of Stanisław Lem’s immensely popular novel. A writer who sold more than 45 million copies in 41 different languages throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Lem is known for his distinct style of poetry, puns, and idiomatic wordplay. His books often revolve around the true nature of human intelligence, unfathomable human limitations, and our place in an empty universe.

Solaris is an international co-production that is set to feature at the Lyric Hammersmith theatre in London after having been performed at The Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh and Melbourne, Australia. The play derives its roots from the novel; yet it explores the plot and characters in a unique manner, making it one of the most gratifying renditions of the original work. It is a psychological thriller that instils deep fear for an unknown terror. The play explores themes of isolation, fear, and phobias. The existential crisis is magnified as the manifestations of these terrors morph from the surreal to the physical. Solaris has a gender-balanced cast and is adapted perfectly for the stage.

    The Story

The story begins with three scientists on a space station orbiting Solaris, a new planet that has recently been discovered. When there are reports of strange activity on the space station, Kris Kelvin is sent from Earth to investigate. When she arrives, she discovers a dead crew-member and the remaining seeing inexplicable visions.

When she is faced by her long-departed lover Ray, it appears that she has also been entrapped in the enigma of this eerie planet. Should Kris come back to reality, or is this perhaps an opportunity to reverse time? Can she elude her loneliness by giving in to her carnal urges? Has the crew been analysing Solaris, or has the planet been analysing them?
