The Cathedral of San Gimignano is without a doubt one of Siena's most important monuments. Tucked away in the Piazza del Duomo at the town's heart, this landmark is hard to miss. You’ll be hooked on the architecture of the duomo from the minute you lay eyes on it: the Tuscan stone columns, the fresco-adorned walls that recount stories of the New & Old Testaments, splendid iconography by famous Sienese artists, polychrome decorations, and more. Admire Chapel of Santa Fina where three famous Florentine artists worked and is dedicated to San Gimignano’s best-loved saint.
The Museum of Sacred Art of San Gimignano is located on the southern side of Piazza Pecori. Holding exquisite paintings on wood and canvas, this museum has much to explore over two floors. Walk past sculptures, bas-reliefs, illuminated codices, fabrics and objects made of silver, and then some. The wonderful painting on wood by Bartolo di Fredi depicting the Madonna of the Rose is a sight you won’t be able to forget even after you depart!
