Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto @ The Concertgebouw

    Date: 2nd August 2017

    Time: 20:00 - 22:20

    Venue: Great Hall, Concertgebouw

    The Concert

Ray Chen is the winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and is described as ‘magnetic’ and ‘overwhelming’. His intense focus and concentration on the strings result in the purest of sounds. In this concert, three classical works will occupy the acoustic spotlight.

    Mozart’s 32nd Symphony

Written in 1779, Mozart’s 32nd symphony is written as an Italian overture. Oddly-paced, extremely technical and multiple musical elements put this score in a class of its own.

    Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto

Part of Felix Mendelssohn’s last orchestral work, the ‘Violin Concerto’ is one of the most frequently performed concertos in history. The concerto is innovative across multiple aspects and steps away from others in its category.

    Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony

Commonly known as the ‘New World Symphony’, the work was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893. The symphony has reached a level of unparalleled fame and is among the most popular symphonies played. During the Apollo 11 mission, this work was taken to the moon; making it the first score to be played in space.
