This was such a great tour and Frederica was a great guide. It was a bit confusing trying to find the meeting point. (Basically you go to the ticket office and see the attendant all the way to the left to pick up your tour and museum tickets.)

Construction on the solid fortress began in 1299 above the ruins of the destroyed Uberti Ghibelline towers, a testimony of the final victory of the Guelph faction in the 13th century. It has been the second house of the Medici family for over 100 years. Today, it is still the political symbol of Florence's mayor's office.

Accessibility

The side entrance in Via dei Gondi has been adapted for wheelchair users and disabled visitors.
The two main floors of the museum are wheelchair accessible but unfortunately, access to the mezzanine floor and some other locations are not.

Additional information

If it rains, note that Arnolfo's Tower will be closed to the public and the medieval guard walk will be opened for visiting instead.
This palace is also the seat of the city council. Unfortunately this means that on certain special occasions when institutional ceremonies are scheduled, the museum may be totally or partially closed to the public.
Children under the age of 18 years should be accompanied by an adult.
