Witness the great sorrows of unrequited love with this all-new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, coming to the Sydney Opera House this summer!

Why Watch Eugene Onegin

Kaspar Holten's new and moving production of Eugene Onegin plays with memories as a theme. Nicole Car's Tatyana and her husband Etienne Dupuis's Eugene watch their younger selves make choices that will haunt their lives. As memories pile up on stage, the effect is devastating. Carlo Montanaro conducts one of Tchaikovsky’s most celebrated works. The Romantic score adds layers of emotion to Pushkin’s original tale of unrequited love.

The Story

Alexander Pushkin's Eugene Onegin is an epic poem about love and regret, telling the story of Tatyana, a dreamer, who is forever lost in romantic imaginings. When the handsome Eugene Onegin walks into her world, she falls for him hard. But Onegin rejects her advances, ending what could have been before it even began. Tchaikovsky’s opera is a powerful study in reminiscence and regret.
