The guide was super nice and very knowledgeable. She was engaging and energetic to make the tour more interesting. Gave us enough pause time from room to room to look at the different aspects and take pictures and answered all the questions the different tourists had for her. Very sweet lady, and her English was great to top it off. I booked an express tour for 1 hour but she ended up showing us around for longer than that and we didn't run out of things to see either! She was willing to stay the extra time and wanted to keep going along with the wishes of the group. I would very much recommend them!

Castel Sant’Angelo is spread over 6 floors including the ground floor. The artifacts at the gallery are spread over these floors.

First Level

The first level or the main level of Castel Sant’Angelo is where the original mausoleum used to be. Just as you enter the floor, on your left, you will find the Cortile del Salvatore followed by the Ambulacro di Bonifacio IX. The floor also consists of the Courtyard of the Shootings, the Chapel of the Condemned, the Roman atrium, and the Helical ramp to access the other floors.

Second Level

The first attraction on this floor is the Hall of Urns. The access to this hall is 3 meters wide to allow the funeral processions to transit it. You can also visit the Parlor, the Prison cells, and the Silos located on this floor.

Third Level

The main feature of the third level of  Castel Sant’Angelo is the Courtyard of Honor. St Michael is also the main statue on top of  Castel Sant’Angelo, so you might recognize his sculpture in this hall. This figure was carved by Raffaello da Montelupo, a Michelangelo protégé. The Courtyard of Honor is surrounded by Papel flats. During the Sack of Rome in 1527, Clement VII lived here for seven months.

Fourth Level

The fourth level of the  Castel Sant’Angelo consists of several remarkable artifacts. The Paulina Room on this level was built during Pope Paul III's pontificate. The Paolina Room's artwork includes the coat of arms of Paul III, as well as works by Alexander the Great, St Paul, St Michael, and Emperor Hadrian. The same man who proposed the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel set in motion the plan for the Grand Loggia on the fourth floor.

Fifth Level

Castel Sant’Angelo’s fifth floor is the home of the Library Hall where there is a reproduction of the original Pieta from St Peter's Basilica. In 1540, Pope Paul III ordered this room to house the Papel archives. Luzio Luzzi produced the magnificent ceiling paintings of the hall. The Treasure Room is also worth exploring on this floor of Castel Sant’Angelo.

Sixth Level

A gorgeous view of the city can be had from the sixth floor of Castel Sant’Angelo. The bronze figure of the archangel Michael stands at the top of the small winding staircase to the floor. Pieter Antoon Verchaffelt created the statue. You will be able to explore Sala Della Rotunda and Sala delle Colonne on the top floor as well.
Here are other things to do in Rome that you must not miss.

St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica, considered the hub of Christendom, is one of Vatican City's most important pilgrimage attractions. St. Peter's Basilica was once the world's tallest building, and it still holds the title of having the world's tallest dome. The building's enormous height allows for a spectacular perspective of the entire city. This is undoubtedly one of the most popular of Rome’s tourist attractions. Book St. Peter's Basilica tickets.

Vatican Museums

The Vatican Museums, established by Pope Julius II in the early 16th century and expanded by subsequent pontiffs, house one of the world's largest art collections. Collections span from Egyptian mummies to Etruscan bronzes to antique busts, old masters, and current paintings, and are displayed throughout 4 miles of hallways and rooms. Don’t forget to explore a series of rooms frescoed by Rafael. Book Vatican tickets.

Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel, which houses two of the world's most famous pieces of art – Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes and his Giudizio Universale – is the one portion of the Vatican Museums that everybody wishes to see, and on a busy day, you could be occupying it with up to 2000 others. Michelangelo's ceiling artwork, which can be seen best from the chapel's main entrance on the far east side, spans the full 800-square-meter expanse. Book Sistine Chapel tickets.

Roman Colosseum

The Colosseum is a must-see for anybody visiting Rome, and it does not disappoint, especially when accompanied by tales of armored gladiators and ravenous lions. This magnificent amphitheater epitomizes the force and drama of ancient Rome more than any other monument, and it is still an exhilarating sight today. It is still Italy's largest tourist destination, attracting more than seven million tourists each year after 2000 years. Book Colosseum tickets.

Pantheon

The Pantheon, a remarkable 2000-year-old temple that is now a church, is one of Rome's best-preserved historical buildings and one of the most prominent structures in the Western world. While its weathered, mottled façade betrays its antiquity, passing through its massive bronze doors and gazing up at the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Book Roman Pantheon tickets.

Borghese Gallery

Borghese Gallery houses the 'queen of all private art collections,' with paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael, and Titian, as well as breathtaking Bernini sculptures. There are many highlights, but Bernini's Ratto di Proserpina and Canova's Venere Vincitrice are two of the most notable.
