Reichstag Tours Guide

The Reichstag has a rich and complex history and has been the seat of the German parliament since 1894. The building was set on fire in 1933, which helped the Nazi party rise to power and was also heavily damaged during World War II. The Reichstag was restored and became the seat of the Bundestag (the German federal parliament) once again after the reunification of Germany. The Reichstag building is symbolic of the German people, representing the country's political history and ongoing journey towards democracy. The building is also a symbol of the reunification of Germany and the country's post-war recovery.

Reichstag Parliament

The Lower House of the German Parliament during the Empire and the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic were both historically headquartered in the Reichstagsgebäude before the arson attempt that resulted in the 1933 Reichstag fire. Today, the Federal Republic of Germany's Bundestag gathers here. The Reichstag Parliament's iconic 23-meter-high glass dome with an observation deck is open for tourists.

Reichstag Building

The Reichstag Building was reduced to rubble when a fire broke out there in the 1930s. After the restoration, the Neoclassical palace has become one of Germany's most popular tourist destinations. The construction of the building was completed in 1894, and since 1999, it has been home to Germany's parliament. It also symbolizes Germany's reunification.

Reichstag Dome

Norman Foster reconstructed the Reichstag Dome after the Reichstag caught fire in the 1930s. The new Dome, in many ways, echoes the Dome, especially since it's made of glass and steel. Visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view of Berlin from here, making it one of the most visited attractions in the German capital. Overall, the Dome is more modern-looking than the rest of the building.

Reichstag Plenary Chambers

Paul Wallot, between 1884 and 1894, constructed the Reichstag. The plenary chamber, which has a floor space of 1200 square metres and a height of 24 metres, is the main highlight of the Reichstag. It spans the whole height of the building, and its interiors are visible from practically all of the neighbouring buildings' floor levels, from the interior courtyards, and to other vantage points.

Berlin Palace

The revamped Berlin Palace is a modern baroque building and is considered to be the melting pot of world cultures. The German Bundestag decided to reconstruct the Berlin Palace, resulting in stiff competition between architects worldwide.

Memorial Church

The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Building is one of the top attractions of Berlin. The Memorial Building, which is not only a gorgeous church, is also a memorial to peace and reconciliation as well as war and devastation. Only the tower's remnants, which serve as decoration for the structure today, are left after being severely damaged during World War II.

Postdamer Square

Potsdamer Square is one of the main squares in Berlin today. It is close to the major tourist destinations in the German capital, including Tiergarten Park, the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, the Topography of Terror, and Checkpoint Charlie.
