Very easy to purchase tickets. The tour to see each of the exhibits was easy to follow. Each exhibit should be visited. The Duomo is amazing and hard to believe this was built 600+ years ago.

Hello, we had a lovely time. The guide was EXCELLENT. There were some elderly people in the group that started arguing with her, I think they wanted a more personalised experience. She handled it really well, as they were particularly beligerant, and carried on delivering an excellent and really knowledgable tour. She has such passion for her city and it really shows. 10/10, would recommend.

The Façade and Interiors

The elaborate façade and interiors of Siena Cathedral deserve the most attention. There are two facades: lower and upper. The former is divided into three main portals and contains pediments, the sun, and the rose window depicting the Last SupperAdditionally, the flooring is considered to be one of the most intricate yet lavish marble works inlaid with mosaic.

Works of Art

Not just the façade but the entire Siena Cathedral is filled with works of renaissance artists like Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Pinturicchio, and Bernini. Some of them include sculptures of the Crucifixion, St. John The Baptist, a painting of the stoning of St. Stephen, and Gothic glasses.

Baptistry of San Giovanni

The Baptistry is one of the most celebrated structures of central Siena. It was built between 1316-1325 and had an unfinished façade along with completely decorated interiors. One of the most amazing parts of the Baptistry is the hexagonal Baptist basin decorated with bronze and marble panels. The carving from the life of St. John the Baptist is described in intricate detail.

Piccolomini Library

The name Piccolomini refers to a mediator in the medieval age who was later made the Bishop of Siena. The library resides inside the Siena Duomo and has a collection of rich history. More than the collection, it’s the architecture, frescoes, sculpture, floor works, and wall décor done during the time that catches the eye.

Crypt

The Crypt is one of the discoveries within the Cathedral complex that came to notice during the 1990s. The place was once assumed to be the priest’s antechamber. There are many frescoes like those of Visitation and Crucifixion that date back to as late as the 1200s. However, the exact artists pertaining to the frescoes have not been determined yet.
