What to See on a Warner Bros. Studio Tour
What to See on a Warner Bros. Studio Tour
A visit to the Warner Bros. Studios gives you the chance to explore popular sets and props. Here are some exciting tour highlights:
Great Hall
Head down to the Great Hall to discover one of the most iconic sets from the Harry Potter movies. It was originally built for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the year 2000 and was later used as a key set for six more films. The Great Hall takes pride in housing beautiful handcrafted props including Professor Dumbledore’s lectern and the House Points Counter.
Platform 9 ¾
Visit the famous Platform 9 ¾ that transported hundreds of students to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Believe it or not, most scenes that took place on Platform 9 ¾ were actually shot at King’s Cross Station in London. However, during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, a section of the platform was recreated at the studio with the entire track and train. The crew also added visual effects that helped create the moving backdrop, along with adding special effects that created the hopping Chocolate Frogs and flying Dementors.
Diagon Alley
The set for Diagon Alley had constantly changed throughout the series by moving the walls and shifting the shops and buildings to create the street that is seen in the films today. The actual design of the Diagon Alley street included intricate details from the Harry Potter books along with inspiration from the works of Charles Dickens. From housing the Gringotts Banks to Flourish and Blotts and even the famous Ollivanders wand shop, the set guarantees to give an out-of-the-world experience for all Potterheads.
Props
Apart from the spectacular sets, you’ll also get to witness familiar props that were used throughout the making of the Harry Potter series. This includes the Memory cabinet situated in Professor Dumbledore’s office, Professor Umbridge’s Office that includes her collection of plates featuring moving kittens, famous character costumes, the Sorting Hat and more.
Things to See on a Harry Potter London Walking Tour
Things to See on a Harry Potter London Walking Tour
There are several places to cover outside of the Warner Bros. Studio that have played a crucial role in the making of the Harry Potter series. Here are a few highlights of your tour.
St. Paul's Cathedral
St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most famous and instantly recognizable sights in London. Completed in 1710, the cathedral boasts of having one of the largest domes in the world, set at a height of 366 feet. It also houses a series of art collections that spans out over different art periods, all the way up to the present day. You might remember its famous winding staircase as the one that leads up to the Divination classroom.
Millennium Bridge
The famous Millennium Bridge, built over the River Thames, is located right in front of the south facade of St. Paul’s Cathedral. The bridge opened to the public in June 2000. It became widely popular after it was featured at the beginning of the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when a group of Death Eaters destroyed the bridge in a memorable scene.
King's Cross Station
London's Kings Cross station is one of the most popular highlights of the tour. Most scenes from the film's Platform 9 ¾ were shot here. As a homage to the film, a part of the set is still left untouched here: a trolley seemingly disappearing into a wall. You'll also find a Harry Potter souvenir store here where you can purchase themed bags, accessories, t-shirts, hoodies, and one-of-a-kind collectables like pin badges and stationary wands.
