Why Watch Little Miss Sunshine
Why Watch Little Miss Sunshine
A show that is as warm and comforting as it is funny, Little Miss Sunshine is one of those rare gems that combines an excellent story with fabulous music and comedy. The 2006 film that inspired this musical is a two-time Academy Award winner. Lyricist William Finn and writer James Lapine, the duo that won multiple Tony Awards, are the main creative figures behind this masterpiece.
The musical itself is a reflection of the importance of family and the impact it has on what kinds of people we become. Choreographer Anthony Whiteman and director Mehmet Ergen are set to propel the show to a successful run this March at the Arcola Theatre.
The Story
The Hoover family is not particularly well off and are swamped in their own troubles. Young Olive, however, hopes to compete in the ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ beauty contest and bring home the prize. Her family holds nothing back when it comes to supporting Olive and her dreams of stardom. They load their bags into their old yellow camper and head to California. The van is not in great shape, and reaching the beauty contest while keeping the van in one piece is not an easy task. Watch as the family endures and confronts the harsh realities of life in charmingly comical ways. This is truly a show worth watching this summer at the West End!
