what to expect
What is Super Nintendo World?
Super Nintendo World is a Mario-themed park in Japan that includes tons of attractions and rides based on the antics of Mario and his friends. It’s a fun way to team up, battle your rivals and have fun in an incredible land of play. It is also the largest themed area at Osaka Park to date.

Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge
This is an exciting journey, with 4 riders per cart. Each rider will have to steer their own wheel in tandem with the arrows that appear on their headset. All this, while having to dodge enemies like Bullet Bill and Boo, and favorites like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad zigzagging around you!
If you have kids with you, they will love Yoshi’s Adventure. The ride will take you on the back of a friendly Yoshi, and you can hunt for Captain Toad’s colored eggs that have been hidden along the course. Simply press the button in the carriage when you see one!
If you beat the five challenges in the park, it will win you the virtual keys to battle with the big baddie, Bowser Jr. This impressive boss stage showdown activity has a life-size 2D scrolling Mario stage. Your shadow will be projected on the screen, and you can use this to interact with the game: collecting Fire Flowers to shoot flames just as Bowser Jr. cruises by in his Junior Clown Car. The five challenges you have to get through involve physical props from the digital game and that in itself is a pretty exciting thing to witness. The Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, for example, involves silencing 12 oversized alarm clocks. How do you do that? By hitting them all within the time limit - before the massive Piranha Plant is awakened, that is! Other key challenges feature familiar villains from the Mario universe. These games include the Bob-omb Kaboom Room, Thwomp Panel Panic, the Koopa Troopa POWer Punch, and Goomba Crazy Crank.
Leaderboards and Achievements
With every game you play at Super Nintendo World, you collect virtual coins that will be fed into a daily ranking. This ranking shows how you are competing with other visitors during the day. Because you can track your progress via the Power Up Band and the app, you get to unlock digital stamps of Mario-related characters, with each stamp unlocking under specific conditions. In fact, you can see a shadow of stamps that you haven’t got yet. If you tap on these, you’ll get an idea of how to earn them, so that you can plan your next goal. For instance, if you made it to the Top 10 on the leaderboard for Mario Kart the last time you visited, you could, perhaps, aim for the same for the Bowser Jr boss battle, and so on.
mario-themed cafe and store
To truly feel immersed in the Super Nintendo world, make sure to check out the Mario-themed cafe and store, with its own theme music. The menu includes fun options such as Mario’s Strawberry Shortcake Pancake Sandwich and Peach’s Peach Cream Soda. Don’t forget to buy a Mario-themed pouch or a mustache cushion on your way out!
how much do tickets cost?
In order to enter Super Nintendo World, you’ll have to get a special area ticket along with the usual entry pass for USJ. Fortunately, the timed-entry tickets are free, and you can get one via the park’s official smartphone app (iOS/Android) or at designated machines after entering Universal Studios Japan. You can even select your preferred entry time inside the app and at the machine.
But if you want to avoid the queues in front of every ride, choose between the Universal Express Pass Premium (from ¥22,360), the Universal Express Pass 7 (from ¥14,100), or the Universal Express Pass 4 (from ¥10,800). Each of them includes entry to Super Nintendo World and works as a fast-track ticket for a number of attractions, such as Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Yoshi’s Adventure.
Regardless of whether you buy a Universal Express Pass or not, you will still need a One-Day Studio Pass. These are sold as either one-day or two-day tickets and are priced at ￥7800 (about $75) for adults and ￥5400 ($45) for children aged 4 through 11. To make the best of Super Nintendo World’s interactive features, you should make sure to include the cost of a Power-Up Band (sold at the park) in your budget. These bands come in six designs (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and Daisy), priced at ￥3,200 each (about $31 USD).
