Pantheon
Originally a church, Pantheon now serves as a mausoleum and houses a stunning art collection that evokes vivid imagery of the French Revolution, with painted frescos, mosaics, and paintings depicting the life of Saint Geneviève. Descend on a narrow spiral staircase to the crypts that house the remains of famous French and Parisian figures such as Victor Hugo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas, and others. There's more! Climb to the impressive dome of the Pantheon for breathtaking views of Paris. The installation of Foucault's Pendulum, which demonstrated that the Earth did indeed revolve around its axis, marked the final transformation of the Pantheon from a church to a secular temple, a perfect balance of religion and science.
Sainte Chapelle
Discover this historic Gothic architectural gem at your own pace. Guided by a series of information panels, relive the history of Sainte Chapelle, commissioned by King Louis IX in 1241. Sainte Chapelle housed relics from the Passion of the Christ acquired by the monarch in the 13th century. These include a piece of the True Cross and the Holy Crown (nearly lost in the early 19th century). The chapel also has breathtakingly beautiful stained-glass windows. See the history of the world up until the arrival of the relics in Paris with 1,113 scenes in total.
