Pantheon

Opposed to the other majestic Parisian buildings, the Pantheon is a neoclassical architecture built by taking inspiration from the Pantheon of Rome. It started as a functional church and then later turned into a mausoleum. Here in the crypt, you will find the resting places of some of the world’s most popular writers and philosophers. You can find the tombs of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire.

Guided Tour of Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle & La Conciergerie

Begin your journey by admiring Notre Dame from the outside. The medieval Catholic cathedral was built in the Gothic style at the end of the Île de la Cité on the ruins of two other churches. The structure hosts a variety of statues, gargoyles, and chimeras which together create an intricately detailed site to behold.

Sainte-Chapelle, commissioned by King Louis IX, houses the Crown of Thorns which was placed on Christ’s head during the crucifixion. The stained glass windows here are a mind-blowing art piece with such intricate details on display that it just might bring tears to your eyes.

Proceed to La Conciergerie, located on the banks of the Seine. Originally a part of the royal palace, it was turned into a prison during the “Reign of Terror”. You can see the private cell of the last Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, where she spent her last days before her execution. End your experience with a 1-hour Seine River cruise.

I booked the ticket via my phone and my credit cared was accepted on the second attempt. All plain sailing after that: I presented my ticket, on my phone, at the entrance and was waved through. The sheer scale of the Pantheon is awe-inspiring, a miracle of light and shade, with daylight filtering down from the dome and high windows to illumine the beautiful and colourful murals and heroic groups of statuary. There is a wonderful sense of space. I felt lucky to be visiting it on a day when it wasn't too crowded. In the crypt, one can pay one's respects to the great and good from French history, all the way from Voltaire to Josephine Baker. I liked the provision of floor plans and touch screens to educate visitors about each person, and for those requiring further information, there were bookshelves, listening posts and comfortable seats.

By buying online, whilst standing outside the venue, I was able to walk straight in past an hour long queue for paper tickets at the entrance.

Easy to order and quick to get into the Pantheon. We were waiting in line (almost 1/2 hour wait). I placed the order while we were waiting and thanks to the speed of the order, we got in 5 minutes after purchasing the tickets.

I was a bit disappointed as I bought my ticket online but it was not clear this did not include climbing the steps to the top. I did not find this out until I was inside the Pantheon. I was happy to pay the extra once I realised, however was told there was no availability until much later in the day and I was not able to come back.
