Pros and Cons

Because of its close proximity to Las Vegas, as well the road quality, the West Rim is the ideal Grand Canyon location to drive to. Once you reach the Grand Canyon, you can opt for a helicopter or airplane tour. The West Rim is also home to the infamous Skywalk. In addition, it’s the only rim where you can fly to the canyon floor. Check out our full collection of Grand Canyon tours to the bottom of the West Rim.

The North Rim is considered to be the ‘quiet rim’. It receives only one tenth of the visitors as the South Rim. But don’t let this deter you; the North Rim is home to incredible viewpoints, including the 8,803-foot Point Imperial, the rim’s highest point. Bright Angel Point is also popular, with stunning views of the Roaring Springs. Keep in mind, the North Rim is only open from mid MArch to mid October. It’s the only area that closes during the winter months.

If you were to close your eyes and try to imagine the Grand Canyon based on photos you’ve seen, the picture in your head most likely resembles the South Rim. The most popular section of the Grand Canyon, it is said to have to the best views. With more lush terrain than the arid West Rim, it’s a great place to hike.
