Today, as you walk through those very same paths, you will find yourself transported back to the ancient Flavian era. Let’s take a look at all the Colosseum tickets, tour highlights and everything else you’ll need for a perfect trip to the ancient amphitheater.

Post Covid-19 Safety Measures and New Rules at the Colosseum

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Colosseum has enforced several safety measures:
  • All visitors should pre-book tickets online.
  • Mandatory temperature checks before entering the attraction.
  • Up to 14 visitors will be allowed to enter every 15 minutes.
  • Access to the Colosseum, in this first phase, will be exclusively from 'Valadier Entrance'.

Colosseum Ticket and Tour Options Explained

A standard Colosseum ticket will gain you entry into the majority of the Colosseum, Roman  Forum, and Palatine Hill. Visitors can choose from a number of ticket options such as priority access tickets and Colosseum guided tour tickets. However, access to special areas like the Underground, Arena, and Belvedere is not included in these tours unless specifically mentioned. Therefore, visitors need to purchase a special access ticket if they wish to visit these sections.
Please keep in mind that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are several safety measures in place. Entry into the Colosseum will be restricted and phased at 15-minute intervals. At the time of booking, visitors can choose their preferred entry timing from the available time slots, which will ensure that there are no crowds at the entrance. All visitors are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to their allotted time and wear masks for the entire duration of their visit.

Explore the Colosseum

No visit to Rome is complete without witnessing the mighty Colosseum. Let’s take a look at the various attractions and their must-see highlights that make the Colosseum one of the most popular attractions of Rome.
The Arena
Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating highlights of the Colosseum, the Arena is where the ancient gladiators would fight in front of thousands of spectators. Massive in size, a visit to the Arena will give you a 360-degree view of the largest amphitheater in the world.
The Hypogeum
The Hypogeum or the Underground is an extensive network of underground tunnels that housed built-in holding areas for animals as well as gladiators who were to fight in the Arena. The gladiators would enter the Arena from the ‘Porta Triumphalis’ gate with the help of wooden elevators.
The Belvedere
The belvederes were enormous stands where hundreds of spectators would gather to witness the combat between gladiators. Divided into four floors, the belvedere offers a panoramic view of the Colosseum and is an essential part of any Colosseum tour.
The Roman Forum
Once the business hub of yesteryear Rome, the Roman Forum was an area buzzing with shops, courts, meeting areas and open-air markets. However, all that now stands in its place is a set of ancient ruins. Popular attractions like the Temple of Antoninus Pius, the Temple of Saturn, and the Arch of Septimius Severus are located here.
The Palatine Hill
One of the most coveted spots in ancient Rome, the Palatine Hill was home to many emperors and aristocrats. It also offers one of the best views of the city. Here, you can explore historic sites such as the Stadium of Domitian and the House of Livia.
