What is the Burj Khalifa?
Burj Khalifa Dubai is the tallest structure in the world, standing at a height of 829.8 meters. It was built in order to change Dubai’s image as an oil based economy so that Dubai could gain international recognition and add other sources of income to it’s already booming economy.
The construction took 5 years and it houses 211 floors, which are also the most floors any building has. With residence, offices, hotels, restaurants and the world’s highest observation deck, Burj Khalifa Dubai is a remarkable structure, reminding us about the insane capability of human beings.
Burj Khalifa Facts
The gigantic structure has over 24,000 glass windows which would take 36 humans 3-4 months to clean. The windows occupy an area of 120,000 sq. meters.
For some context as to how tall the tower really is, it can fit in itself 3 Eiffel Towers and it is 15 times the height of the tallest point at Niagara Falls.
The construction took 110,000 tons of concrete, 55,000 tons of steel rebar and 22 million man hours to complete the Burj Khalifa. If the amount of steel rebar was laid down end to end I would take more than a quarter of the earth’s area!
All the floors at the Burj are above sea level, barring one which is the basement. It contains 900 apartments, around 2900 parking spaces and 300 hotels.
