Why Watch The Lehman Trilogy
The story is divided into three sections, each nearly an hour long and covers the growth of the firm from nothing to one of the most respected in the country. The script is expertly paced, with the narration covering everything from the crossing of the three brothers, Henry, Emanuel, and Mayer Lehman in the 1840s, all the way until its fall in the early 2000s.
Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. was the 4th largest investment bank during its peak, ultimately closing after 158 years of operation in 2008. Director Sam Mendes lays out the events that led to the eventual downfall of the firm. Mendes won critical acclaim owing to his fine-tolled precision in charting out the history of the institution from humble origins into an empire that would be known across the world. With Olivier and Tony Award-nominee Adam Godley, 2-time Olivier and BAFTA Award-winner Simon Beale taking on lead roles, the production promises to be a memorable tale of western capitalism through the life of a single family. Set designer Es Devlin also won praise for aptly capturing the meeting rooms of a typical New York office on a revolving platform and showing how a humble office grew into a massive multi-storeyed building. Energy and humor wonderfully complement the dense drama, ensuring that at no point the audience feels nearly 174 years pass by!
