Network Tickets

Join Howard Beale (played by Bryan Cranston) as he goes through the daily struggle and pressures of being a newscaster, which eventually leads him into a spiral of depression. Enjoy this original adaptation of the award-winning 1976 motion picture of the same name.

    Why Watch Network

This story is an adaptation of the award-winning 1976 film of the same name. The play is based on the same revolutionary screenplay written by Paddy Chayefsky. Network tells the stoty of a newscaster whose vitriolic nature earns him the nickname "mad prophet of the airwaves". The story takes a look at the curious and unhinging nature of people around us and how its relevance stems from the society that we live in today.

The play is directed by the absolutely masterful Ivo Van Hove, who does a stellar job of adapting the movie onto the small stage. Bryan Cranston plays the manic Howard Beale to perfection; he is outraged by the news that seems to be devolving into a circus and is fired following the plummeting ratings of his segment. The story is brought to life on stage by the production of the versatile Lee Hall.

    The Story

Howard Beale is an unabashed orator and airs his personal views and opinions on air, no holds barred; he feels that the news should not in any way be diluted. As his segment’s ratings keep falling, the channel has no choice but to let go of him. In his desperation, the newscaster delivers a rousing and explosive rant, one in which he actively plans an on-air suicide. It is this display of torrid anger and rage that leads to an all-time high in ratings.

The story is a reflection of how the modern world is teeming with watchful people with an almost savagely primitive urge to witness the downfall of others. It reminds us of the scrutiny that each of us is going through on a daily basis. The cast captures the dark theme of the play perfectly, ensuring that you leave the theatre thoroughly entertained.

    Critics Reviews

"It is a markedly different approach — immersive and, by design, overwhelming — from the unobtrusive, naturalistic style"
