The story is set in the romantic Montmartre Quarter of Paris, in the late 1890s. Christian, a struggling composer, moves to Paris’ famous Montmartre district with the hope of becoming a part of the Bohemian movement. One day, he discovers his neighbors are a troupe of performers led by Toulouse-Lautrec. On finding out that Christian is a writer, the troupe goes to him for help for their proposed show. Christian helps them finish the show, which the troupe hopes to sell to the owner of the Moulin Rouge, the most famous cabaret in France.
