why watch girl from the north country
Nick Laine is doomed, as the banks are forcing foreclosure of his guesthouse. His wife, Elizabeth, has dementia. He has two daughters, the youngest of them, Marianne, is adopted, 19 years old and pregnant. Marianne has chosen to keep the identity of her child’s father a secret. Nothing is going right for this family till two young men find shelter at the guest house.
This play is heartwarmingly heartbreaking. Set in 1934, Minnesota, the stage is dim-lit to showcase the uncertainty in the lives of the Laine family. Filled with 20 of Bob Dylan’s songs, this musical is tragic and spiritually awakening.
