Built over an underground river, the Garrick Theatre London is named after the Shakespearean actor, David Garrick. The historic site opened in the year 1889 and was financed by the playwright W.S. Gilbert. The original theatre, which could fit 800 people, was designed by Walter Emden and C.J. Phillips. In 1968, an active campaign by the Musician\u2019s Union, Equity, and many theatre groups saved the Garrick Theatre from the proposed redevelopment of the Covent Garden.<\/p>\n

Some of the notable plays that have been performed here include The Profligate, A Pair of Spectacles, The Wedding Guest, and No Sex Please, We\u2019re British. More recent productions that have been performed at the Garrick Theatre are All on her Own, Harlequinade, Red Velvet, The Painkiller, and The Entertainer.<\/p>\n
