The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) started in 1952 in Olinda, Victoria, born from the passion of film enthusiasts. Initially intended for a small audience, the first festival saw about 800 attendees, far exceeding expectations.<\/p>\n

MIFF has since become Australia\u2019s premier film festival and one of the oldest in the industry, held annually in Melbourne. Known for showcasing films that are not typically seen in local cinemas, it has grown to feature around 400 films and shorts from around the world.<\/p>\n

Running for 17 days, MIFF attracts approximately 200,000 visitors, including film fans and industry professionals. The festival also hosts the 37\u00b0South Market, a four-day conference for networking and industry workshops. <\/p>\n

MIFF offers various awards, including the Grand Prix for Best Short Film, the Award for Best Australian Short Film, and audience choice awards for feature films and documentaries. It continues to be a significant event for discovering innovative and global cinema.<\/p>\n

MIFF Schools returns for its 72nd edition in 2024, offering high-quality, diverse films in languages commonly taught in Victorian schools: French, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, and German.
