\ud83d\udca1 Where do you get your ideas?<\/h2>\n

Mostly by looking around and reading. It so happens that \u2018I just came across this\u2019 in a book I was reading, and the rest is curiosity. It builds on until I have a fresh perspective and a newer sense of the world. I carry a novel everywhere I travel, and I have never stopped reading since I first picked up \u2018The Alchemist\u2019 at the age of fifteen. Movies, music, debates with friends, and spirituality are where I have found inspiration. There is enough research that supports the idea that athleticism helps build a creative reservoir, and I have complete faith that it does; otherwise, Murakami wouldn\u2019t be waking up at 4 AM to run!<\/p>\n

\"Rohit \"Rohit<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd0d How do you do your research?<\/h2>\n

Any opinion that is not a first-person account is secondary to me, so I speak to people, and in some cases, I go and experience it myself. For facts and stats, Google is the ultimate boss. With a few Boolean search tricks, you can cut through the fluff and get to the point on Google. I verify with my seniors if a statement is controversial. I read history, and I enjoy watching people explore cities on YouTube. Popular forums like Reddit help a lot.<\/p>\n

What is your favorite travel story and why?<\/h2>\n

It will always be the adventures of Christopher McCandless in the wilderness. I have always loved being out in nature among trees and I like reading Naturalist literature. Yes, I had a f*** society phase when I watched \u2018Into the Wild\u2019 at a vulnerable age of 14. The movie was a visual feast and it was inspiring to learn how less we need to survive. Given a choice, I would enjoy living a life of bare minimum surrounded by books and lovely people. Definitely not the ending of the movie but some version of a reasonable nomadic life. <\/p>\n

\"Rohit<\/p>\n

How would you describe your writing style and approach to storytelling?<\/h2>\n

Before travel writing, I wrote album reviews for The Indian Music Diaries. I also have experience writing for a media company where I covered local news and the culture of Goa. Coupling that with my interest in writing short stories is how I would describe my current writing style. I care deeply about culture and love exploring new ones. Thus, my approach to storytelling is people-oriented and sometimes philosophical. Like the famous saying goes, ‘there is no perception without the perceiver’.<\/p>\n

What has been your most memorable travel experience and why?<\/h2>\n

I had the best time in Northeast India, exploring parts of Sikkim, Assam, and West Bengal. When I was a child, I still vividly remember the spot in Sikkim from where you could see Mt. Everest. The sight of the Himalayan ranges was truly something else. I met some of the nicest people in Assam and enjoyed the tranquility of the place. I loved the food in Kolkata and had a great time learning about the cultural capital of India.<\/p>\n

Are there any travel rituals or habits you have while on the road?<\/h2>\n

I am more of a \u2018pack your bags and leave\u2019 kind of traveler. I do take notes wherever needed and I usually try to carry minimal clothes and stuff. Like I said, novels are always a companion. I am in my hostel phase currently, so I enjoy meeting fellow backpackers. <\/p>\n

How do you immerse yourself in different cultures during your travels?<\/h2>\n

Before visiting a place, I read about its history and the people who live there. It’s natural for me to meet people with a smile on my face and an open mind. The food, of course, is a highlight! I also try to understand their common beliefs, which are evidently seen in the museums and art of that place.<\/p>\n

Outside of travel writing, what are some of your other interests or hobbies?<\/h2>\n

My life revolves around Literature, Yoga and Music. I get my high from running and cycling. Attending music festivals, calligraphy, learning a new language, trekking, jumping rope and cooking are some other activities I take keen interest in. <\/p>\n

Is there a particular destination or travel experience you’re eager to explore and write about?<\/h2>\n

I can\u2019t wait to explore Barcelona. The laid-back culture, Gaud\u00ed’s architecture, and the beaches have all fascinated me for a long time. Another destination on my bucket list is Peru, just so I can participate in a Peruvian wedding tradition. Lately, South Indian temples have piqued my interest, so in the coming year, I am eager to learn more about the multicultural history they represent.<\/p>\n

What do you do to unwind and recharge when you’re not traveling or writing?<\/h2>\n

I meditate. Walking barefoot on grass is relaxing and so is cleaning the house. I try to get that good night\u2019s sleep, so I follow some rituals around it. <\/p>\n
