Alanis also wrote two original songs for the musical, Predator and Smiling, bringing her signature rawness to the lyrics and music. Jagged Little Pill: About The Show<\/h2>\n

Development of a musical adaptation of Alanis Morissette’s 1995 album Jagged Little Pill began in 2013 with Tom Kitt, a Pulitzer Prize-winning composer attached to the project as orchestra arranger. A reading led by Idina Menzel playing the lead role took place in 2017 and the show was set to premiere in May 2018. The Broadway adaptation of the musical is scheduled to premiere at the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway starting November 3rd 2019. Jagged Little Pill has been adapted for the stage by writer Diablo Cody of Juno fame. Diane Paulus has directed the show and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has handled choreographing duties. The show features music by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballar, with Morissette writing the lyrics. The show features costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Justin Townsend, and set design by Ricardo Hernandez.<\/p>\n

Jagged Little Pill: Broadway Story<\/h2>\n

Jagged Little Pill borrows its name from Alanis Morissette’s 9 Grammy nominated album and adapts the story from the iconic album’s themes and emotions to create a brand new story. The jukebox musical follows the Healys, a seemingly “perfect” family which appears too good to be true to outsiders. Well, looks can be deceiving and the facade of perfection begins to crack revealing the family’s true colors. The show follows the Healys as they grapple with their identifies and struggle with maintaining the status quo. The alternative is facing uncomfortable truths about themselves, their community, and the entire world around them. The emotionally charged story is aided beautifully by Morissette’s resonant lyrics and music through songs like Hand In My Pocket, You Oughta Know, Ironic, and many others. Jagged Little Pill brings together two masters of their crafts, Morissette and Diablo Cody to create something remarkable and hard to forget.<\/p>\n
