True West is making its grand return to Broadway after a gap of almost two decades! Starring Oscar & Tony nominee Ethan Hawke and Golden Globe nominee Paul Dano, the new production of Sam Shepard's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama True West, is shaping up to be something truly spectacular. The 2018 Broadway production is being staged at the American Airlines Theatre for the Roundabout Theatre company. The show is being directed by James Macdonald, who last directed Manhattan Theater Club’s The Children on Broadway.
True West is set to begin previews from December 27, 2018, and the official opening night is scheduled for January 24, 2019.
The Story of True West
True West is the gripping story of two brothers who don’t realize just how much they have in common. Holed up in their mother’s house in California, screenwriter Austin and lowlife Lee are tackling big issues namely — order vs. chaos, art vs. commerce, typewriter vs. toaster — and even bigger ones with each other, leading to the airing of old resentments and some unexpected twists in the relationship. Watch this classic as it unfolds themes of family and identity, centered around the American Dream.
