The Story of Saint Joan

Set in the 15th century in France, Saint Joan is based on one of history’s greatest heroines - Joan of Arc. The story revolves around a simple, country girl whose mysterious visions take her to the elite circles of her town. As she gains popularity and influence, the nation’s elite band together to bring her down, and Joan finds herself in a trial for life.

Saint Joan first premiered on 28th December, 1923, and ran till 28th June 1924. It has been revived time and again, and its last revival was in 1993 at the Lyceum Theatre.

Awards

The play was nominated for the 1993 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. It won the Audie Award for the Best Audio Drama in the year 2010, and he Laurence Olivier Award for the Best Revival of a Play in 2008.

After going through several renovations, the new and refurbished Friedman theatre boasts of a seating capacity of 622 seats.
