Constructed in 1925 by the Theatre Guild and christened the Guild Theatre, August Wilson has come a long way. After undergoing a couple of name changes in the 60’s and 80’s the theatre was renamed August Wilson after the celebrated American playwright in 2005. August Wilson is a relatively small theatre with about 1250 seats divided across two sections, orchestra and mezzanine.

We hope you like pink, because Mean Girls is here to stay. The musical is, as Gretchen Weiners would say, so ‘fetch’. Here’s what everyone else is saying about the Mean Girls musical on Broadway:

‘It’s not shocking that Mean Girls is a fast-paced fancy funtime, but it’s a real treat to find that it’s still witty, worldly, and wise.’
- Vulture

‘If you loved the movie, if you found it as 'fetch' as Plastics sub-lieutenant Gretchen Wieners (here played by Ashley Park) would wish, then you will also love this musical’
- The Daily Beast

‘Best of all, in a marketplace filled with mindless work about teens, here’s one that doesn’t insult their intelligence — or yours.’
- The Washington Post

Mean Girls: From Silver Screen to Stage

The now-iconic teen film Mean Girls made waves with its funny storyline and relatable characters when it released in 2004.

The film centers around Cady, a homeschooled child, who finds herself in the big bad world of High School, and has to fit in, taking the viewers on an emotional rollercoaster. Filled with social distinctions, teenage bullying, and social ostracization, the film hit a raw nerve with many teenage girls. What made the film stand out was the redemption each character had in the end.

After all the success Mean Girls saw on the silver screen, it now makes its debut on Broadway. Tina Fey, the film’s screenwriter, joins in to write a book for the musical.

Here’s to Mean Girls now making an impact on Broadway too.
