Hop On Hop Off Bus Hong Kong Reviews

We had a two day ticket which allowed us to use all 3 routes and get on and off at the places we wished to visit, and the commentary through the earphones is quite informative. Red route covers the City, Blue route the Kowloon side, and Green route goes to Repulse Bay (lovely), Stanley for the market and a more laid-back atmosphere for lunch by the sea, then Aberdeen Harbour where a 15 minute sampan ride was included. We also had included a Peak Tram ticket with fast-track past the huge queues (though the Tram closed for maintenance the day after we did it, so that was well timed!). There were also included Star Ferry tickets to get over to Kowloon and back to Pier 7. We bought our tickets the day before we wanted to begin using them, at Pier 7, and when we told the member of Big Bus staff that we were actually staying in Kowloon she gave us extra Ferry tickets. Though using the Ferry only costs pennies, we appreciated the gesture - Thanks!

Other people recommended taking a hop on/hop off big bus tour to get an overview of the city. We had 3 days in Hong Kong and on our 2nd day we got a 48 hour Big Bus tour package that included all three bus routes (blue/green/red lines), several tickets for the star ferry and a choice of the peak tram or the tower 100 observation deck. We had rainy weather so even though the tour provides ponchos we opted to stay on the first floor of the bus. I think we would have enjoyed the open top deck better, but the lines were long and the top deck was the most popular so it was hard to get seats up there. It may be easier to find a seat up top at one of the alternate stops. Since we'd already spent a day traveling around Hong Kong by MTR underground it was nice to see distances and the above ground sights.
